Frequently Asked Questions
(Well, Not So Frequently Yet)
Q: Just who are
Chuck and David?
We're glad you asked! We both
have personal pages set up, so click here for Chuck's page, and click
here for David's page.
Q: Where do my donations go?
A: Straight to the
heart of the matter. First and foremost, we want everyone to know that where
the money
goes is entirely up to the donor that blesses us with it. If you want us to
use your $9.95 to buy and eat a pizza with anchovies and peanut butter,
we will
– after all, we are starving. We could use your money for gas to enable
us to go to an old folks home and spend an afternoon playing 40’s Big
Band songs (Dave plays piano and Chuck the best brass instrument ever invented,
the trombone). Or you may want us to travel to the beach and ask as many ladies
as we can out for a nice dinner, thanks to you generous donation. So, the
possibilities
are endless, just nothing immoral (subject to opinion) or illegal (subject
to Californian\Mexican Law). All donations are split between David
and I
50/50, as we believe in equity above all else – see our Philosophy
page for more.
Nevertheless, here are some of our suggestions
for what you might want to contribute toward:
- School-Related Expenses (see the College for more on this)
- Tuition – UCSD
is not cheap and the reason we are here is to learn and better ourselves
mentally.
- Textbooks – these
heavy (for our arms and wallets) monstrosities have a somewhat important
connection to academic success, if opened of course.
- School Supplies– hard
to take notes without paper, pens, or a straight ruler.
- Wordly Experiences
- Food (see Dining & Entertainment) – every
dollar you donate is three boxes of mac and cheese for us. Of course,
we sometimes have to buy other kinds of food due to the lack of complete
nutritional value in M & C. For example, we love to eat, and we
want to explore all the best restaurants San Diego has to offer.
Ethiopian, French, Japanese, we want to be exposed through it all.
The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
- Experiences (see Activities, Party, Outdoors,
and Ladies Pages) we have
never had the pleasure or the means to do – this includes
a romantic picnic on the beach (hopefully not with just Dave and
myself), or scuba diving, or sailing, or a museum, or maybe a cultural
excursion to Mexico. There is so much to do, and so little time…
- Website Maintenance
(see Technology) costs,
as well as our digital equipment costs (camera, computers, etc.)
- Auctions (see Auctions)
- We offer auctions of items
we find at garage sales and think you should have. We do this as
a service to you guys, check out all of our auctions on eBay!
- Special Services
- We want to meet you! If you
are willing, we would love to come to your home and entertain you
for a weekend, being goofy or debonair. You can show us off to your
friends and we will clean your house and give you a
perosnlaized tour of your beautiful hometown.
- We will tutor your kids, or
you, and having stirring conversations about politics, philosophy,
or poetry.
- We will do any chores, as long
as they do not include long strenous labor
- We will even take your daughter
out on date, as long as she is old enough and has a minium of two
eyes.
- All we ask is for transportaion
costs – we want to travel and see as much of our amazing country
as possible and the great people that reside in it. We will make
you laugh non-stop, and we are willing to travel to anywhere in the
world: We are “Equal Opportunity Goofballs”.
Q: What do I get in return for
my donation?
A: Like we mentioned
in our mission statement, we want to repay your donation in full in the form
of full recognition on our website, and the ability to see firsthand what joy
your donation has brought us, and exactly how we used it. All donors will receive
a personalized email thanking them for their donation, as well as exactly what
we used it for, along with links to where they can see it’s impact on
our website. In addition donations of:
- Every donor will receive a personalized email thanking them for their generous
support, as well as full recognition on our website.
- For donations over $20, one will receive a CD with all pictures, movies,
and DARs related to your donation, as well as past archives if one so desires.
- $50 and up: Wow, now we are becoming indebted to you! We
will honor your name on our website (if you want), and worship you at night
before we go to bed.
Q: How did starvingcollegestudents.com
get started?
It all started when Dave and Chuck
met at UCSD in the summer of 2003. Chuck had just returned from Spain, and Dave
had just arrived from his hometown of Lawrence, Kansas. It was a friendship
made in heaven, and the two goofballs quickly became inseparable. One of their
big summer adventures was to go to Garage Sales every Saturday, and find the
deals that would enable them to live in style without breaking the bank. (This
continues to be pious tradition for them both – see the Activities
Page).
Anyway, after a particularly successful GS adventure, Chuck and Dave were in
the UCSD parking lot and the idea came to them to use the same silly behavior
that helped them to make a connection with the sellers at the Garage Sales to
make a website and document their goofiness for all those interested, while
hopefully making some money to enable them to continue having adventures. Thus
SCS.com was born, and with your help, it could flourish and bring joy and happiness
to all – well maybe.
